She could perform a perfect pirouette before she could even pronounce the word. Even more impressive, she had the five ballet positions down before the spelling of her own name. Meet Alexis Brake. Dancer.
What began as a dream, dressed up in pink tutus and slippers, became a reality when Alexis was only two years old. What set her apart was her loyalty to this passion. Fifteen years later – she’s still dancing. Alexis is to dance what dreaming is to life; they help define each other because they feel empty without one another. As long as she can remember, Alexis had weekends marked off for practice and worn pointe shoes swaying on her doorknob. Through hundreds of dance classes and two different dance studios – Alexis has added the mastery of jazz, tap, and modern to her repertoire that dangles from her doorknob.
Although Alexis and dance don’t make much sense apart, their definitions are definitely not interchangeable. In fact, sometimes hidden by the rhythm in her step and the grace of her schedule, is the depth of her mind. Meet Alexis Brake. Scholar.
Somehow, on top of managing an impossible dance schedule, being the oldest of two sisters at home, and staying involved in the community, Alexis has earned, and maintained, a grade point average ranking her within the top 1% of all students at Wharton High. It’s not easy finding room on her doorknob for the weathered handle of a backpack. Just as her blistered feet still crave a new piece of classical music, her mind still begs to expand with new knowledge – regardless of the sore muscles or the all – nighters.
It’s this intriguing duo of musical and academic excellence that has defined Alexis’s past and will continue to define her future. Meet Alexis Brake. Dreamer.
An aspiring Pre- Med student, she hopes to one day add a stethoscope to her doorknob of overflowing accomplishments. In four years, she is determined to be holding a college diploma with “Bachelor Degree in Biology” written in bold, black letters. But even more impressive, on the same certificate, in italics, will read of her minor in dance. As far as her curiosity will take her in science, her stubborn passion for dance reminds her of her true DNA. Nothing quite captures this paradox as the energy felt through her photos. Dancer, scholar, dreamer. She is ready, she is fierce, she is Alexis.
